    The village on Dog Lake is Missanabie, pronounced as such, as is the Missanabie Cree First nation. In the Chapleau area, they call Missinaibi Lake and river "Miss-in-ay-bee". Actually, the lake is known locally as Big Missinaibi. I suspect that this . It is a camping trip unless you are in a motor boat and are on the lake for a day trip. Think about a kayak adventure the lake is more than 40 km long and 20 km on both sides of the wish-boned shaped lake. Access is from Barclay Bay, at the Missinaibi Provincial Park (Ontario Parks) access point; which is approximately 90 km from Chapleau.

    We spent the next 2 nights here and explored Little Lake Missinaibi. We spent some time down the east arm of little miss and saw one of the pictograph sites, did some fishing and explored around the middle part of the lake. Very pretty area. There's a fly-in fishing camp in this area and a couple of motor boats were out on the lake. There is also a small, but nicely situated, campground on Missinaibi Lake, at the end of the access road from Chapleau. The map also includes some fine paddling area outside the Park, in particular the Shumka area that makes a great wild paddling loop from "big and little Miss" south and west to the railway and back.

The wind died down a bit, and the clouds that had built up so quickly around lunchtime now pretty much disappeared. I am headed to the Missinaibi River in June, the portion flowing from the town of Missinaibi to Lake Missinaibi itself.
